Toledo bulk trash pickup
What Toledo will take, what has to be prepared first, and where the rest goes. The city’s own pages call this bulk items, which is the phrase to look for on their site.
Toledo bulk items: what you can put out

Put it out, but get it ready first6
- Mattresses
- Wrapped in plastic first, for safe and efficient disposal.
- Refrigerators and freezers
- Remove the doors and drain any fluids first.
- Washers, dryers and other large appliances
- Same as refrigerators: remove the doors and drain any fluids first.
- Loose wood, branches and yard waste
- Cut or bundled/bagged under 4 feet by 4 feet and 40 pounds, branches under 6 feet in diameter. Protruding nails and screws removed or pounded flat first.
- Rolled rugs or carpet
- Tied, 4 feet or less in length, under 40 pounds.
- Other loose items (clothing, tarps, cardboard, miscellaneous)
- Bundled or bagged, under 4 feet by 4 feet and 40 pounds.
Not collected, and the city names nowhere to take it1
- Batteries, tires, hazardous waste, major car parts, metal box springs, metal doors, computer monitors and commercial construction or demolition debris
- None of these go out with bulk collection. The city's own bulk guidelines list them as unacceptable and name no alternative for any of them - not even where a resident should take them instead.
The rules for everything above
How much
- Five items per week, each no more than 40 pounds.
Where it goes
- At the curb, with 6 feet of clearance on all sides from vehicles, mailboxes and other personal property.
When to put it out
- Serviced on the same day as regular trash collection, weekly, with no need to call ahead - effective 2026-01-05. An older brochure the city still links describes a free monthly pickup scheduled 48 hours ahead by phone; the 2026 calendar and the city's own news post both confirm the weekly, unscheduled policy superseded it.
What Toledo does not say
Toledo publishes no answer for where a refused item (batteries, tires, hazardous waste, major car parts, metal doors, computer monitors) is actually supposed to go, or any per-pickup fee for the free monthly bulk pickup an older brochure still describes, now superseded by the weekly unscheduled policy below. Ask them directly if it matters to you.
