Boston collects trash every week.

Holiday schedule changes

We move only the collection falling on the holiday itself, and leave the rest of the week alone. Boston observes 12 collection-affecting holidays, which is not the same list as the federal calendar. A holiday landing on a weekend is observed on the nearest weekday, so it still moves that week. Checked against the city's own published schedule on September 5, 2026. Boston says only that pickups are delayed “in some neighborhoods during the holiday week”, and does not say whether the days after a holiday move too. We move the holiday's own day and leave the rest of the week alone, so in a holiday week check the city's Trash Day app before you wait. Boston also closes for Evacuation Day and Bunker Hill Day and collects on both as normal.
