- Portland collects organics and recycling every week and trash every other week.
Holiday schedule changes
- We move only the collection falling on the holiday itself, and leave the rest of the week alone. Portland observes 2 collection-affecting holidays, which is not the same list as the federal calendar. Checked against the city's own published schedule on September 7, 2026. Portland stops for two days a year, Christmas and New Year's Day, and moves that day's collection on by one. It does not stop for Thanksgiving. Whether the days after a holiday also move is not something the city's schedule shows, because both holidays fall on a Friday, so we move only the holiday's own day.
