Put it out, but get it ready first4

Mattresses and box springs: They have to be bagged and wrapped.
Branches: Bundled only, nothing over 4 feet long or 4 inches thick, 50 pounds a bundle, and no more than 10 bundles. Loose branches are not collected.
Bicycles: Non-electric only, and take the tires off first.
Loose trash: Bag it. Cardboard boxes and non-city containers are not collected and may be thrown away with the load.

Refrigerators and freezers: Not on Large Item Pickup. Denver collects appliances free on a separate appointment and handles the Freon itself. Call 311 or 720-913-1311 to book one.
Air conditioners: Same as a refrigerator. Free appliance appointment on 311, not Large Item Pickup.
Washers, dryers, stoves and water heaters: Appliances are not large items in Denver. They go on the free appliance appointment on 311.

Construction material: Concrete, bricks, fencing and pallets are all excluded, and so are stumps, dirt and sod.

The rules for everything above

How much

5 large items and 10 bags per address, one collection per household on the day.
Bags no bigger than 32 gallons and no heavier than 50 pounds.
Up to 10 branch bundles.

Where it goes

At the curb or the edge of the alley, within 5 feet, and visible.
At least 2 feet clear of your carts, cars, poles and anything else in the way.
Denver collects from alleys in much of the city. Your set-out place does not change, so it is wherever your carts already go.

When to put it out

Out by 6am on your collection day. Trucks do not come back for late set-outs.
Only during your own Large Item Pickup week. The city treats items put out at other times as illegal dumping.

If you get it wrong

The city calls an out-of-week set-out illegal dumping and does not publish a figure for it. Repeated or severe cases can bring a notice of violation and a court summons.

What Denver does not say

Denver publishes no answer for the earliest you may put large items out, only that they must be out by 6am, how much an out-of-week set-out actually costs, whether a refrigerator needs its doors taken off, or any total weight or pile size. Ask them directly if it matters to you.
